Proper aftercare for Botox treatments

After a Botox treatment, you are immediately ready to resume your social activities. However, there are some aftercare recommendations you should follow to achieve optimal results.

Cooling the treated areas after a Botox injection

Immediately after the injection, we provide you with a cooling pad to apply to the treated skin areas. This helps reduce the risk of swelling and bruising as the cold causes blood vessels to constrict. Additionally, the cooling effect has a pain-relieving benefit.

No exercise the day after the treatment

On the day of your treatment and the following day, you should refrain from engaging in physical activities that could unnecessarily increase your heart rate. This reduces the risk of swelling and bruising, which can occasionally occur after cosmetic injections. Increased blood circulation could also lead to the Botox being transported away from its intended target areas.

For the first few days after your treatment, we recommend avoiding strenuous workouts. Instead, opt for activities that maintain a steady, low heart rate, such as stretching exercises or walking. Additionally, it’s advisable to avoid sauna visits or hot baths, as these can also increase facial blood flow.

Avoid alcohol before and after Botox

You should abstain from consuming alcohol for at least two days before and two days after the treatment. Alcohol has a blood-thinning effect, which increases the risk of swelling, bleeding, or small hematomas.

The likelihood of bruising after a Botox treatment is significantly heightened by prior alcohol consumption. To prevent excessive blood flow to the vessels after the procedure, avoid alcohol following your treatment as well.

The same advice applies to medications with blood-thinning or anticoagulant effects, such as aspirin, ibuprofen, or heparin. We will be happy to discuss any questions you have about this during your consultation.

Avoiding direct sun exposure

After a Botox treatment, you should avoid direct and intense sunlight for at least 24 hours. The UV rays in sunlight can further irritate the skin and increase blood flow to the skin.

Consistently use sun protection products after your treatment to shield the skin from free radicals. This will not only prolong the effects of your Botox treatment but also help prevent natural skin aging.

Proper skin care after a Botox treatment

Avoid exfoliating products and treat your skin with a gentle moisturizer to support optimal regeneration. Facial massages or other cosmetic treatments should not take place immediately after the injection.

Patience pays off

Your individual behavior after a Botox treatment plays a crucial role in the success of the injection. We will discuss all important points during your consultation and provide additional helpful tips on the day of your treatment to ensure the best aftercare for Botox. Remember to be patient—the final results will become visible after approximately 4 to 14 days.
